Overseas Security Advisory Council Bureau of Diplomatic Security U.S. Department of State
The U.S. Embassy is aware of demonstrations, road blockages, and traffic disruptions in Ziguinchor related to a scheduled court hearing for Ziguinchor mayor Ousmane Sonko. These demonstrations may turn confrontational and escalate into violence. American citizens should be aware that actions related to this judicial process could spur protests and unrest throughout Senegal on Monday and Tuesday, May 15 and 16, and possibly longer. American citizens are urged to maintain situational awareness and avoid any areas where such events are ongoing. If the Embassy receives more specific information regarding dates and times of demonstrations, marches, or gatherings we will send updated alerts.
