Demonstration Alert: Reykjavik (Iceland), Limited Labor Strike Affecting Hotels and Fuel Deliveries

Event:  A limited labor strike is affecting some hotels and fuel deliveries in the Reykjavik area. The labor union leading the action approved a second round of strikes starting on February 15 that affect local fuel transport and extend the action to additional hotel housekeeping and waitstaff. Regional fuel availability could be affected as drivers in Reykjavik may seek vehicle fuel in surrounding areas.

Actions to Take: 

• Contact your Reykjavik-area hotel, tour operator, and/or car rental agency to see how labor actions might affect your trip (e.g., fuel for rental cars at pick-up and return in the event of a longer strike).
• Monitor local media outlets for updates (including online English language news outlet RUV https://www.ruv.is/english, https://www.facebook.com/ruvenglish, or https://icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/).
