Demonstration Alert: Paris (France), Pension-Related Protests

Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Paris, France 

(March 16, 2023) 

  

  

Location:  Paris, Place de la Concorde and surrounding areas; other major cities in France 
  

Event:  Demonstrations related to the debate over pension reform are ongoing near the Place de la Concorde and other parts of Paris with reports of trash and vehicles being set on fire.  Police and firefighters are responding, and the Place de la Concorde was evacuated.  Additional demonstrations in other parts of Paris and in other major cities in France may also occur. 

  

Actions to Take: 

  • Avoid demonstrations and areas with significant police activity. 
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests 
  • Monitor local media for updates 
  • Be aware of your surroundings 
  • Keep a low profile 
  • Notify friends and family of your safety
